The Function of Film Sound, 2007
“Taking control of the sound system in The Pallasades shopping center we will play a selection of film soundtracks to the thousands of commuters who must pass through from Birmingham’s main train station each day.
The music we have chosen is made for the purpose of inducing emotion in movie viewers, and by re-applying it to a real-life situation aim to convey a similar effect by causing feelings of elevation, joy, sadness or fear. While the change takes place on a sometimes sub-conscious level, we aim to cause an element of the better-than-life hyper-reality that is experienced in the movies by adding a soundtrack to peoples lives.”
